Check Out Bryant Hague of the Edmond FFA Chapter, Your 2019 Central Area Star in Ag Production During the month of April, the Radio Oklahoma Ag Network and Oklahoma Farm Report is spotlighting the twenty Area Stars of Oklahoma FFA that are among the highest achievers in the organization. The stars come from the five areas in four categories- Star in Ag Placement, Star in Agriscience, Star in Agribusiness and Star in Production Agriculture. This week, we spotlight the five area stars in Ag Production for 2019. One Star Finalist featured in the coming days from each of the categories, will be named the State Star Award Winner during the Oklahoma State FFA Convention coming up April 30 - May 1, 2019 in Oklahoma City.

Our coverage of the 2019 Oklahoma FFA Star Award Finalists continues today with Bryant Hague of the Edmond FFA Chapter, your 2019 Central Area Star in Ag Production. He is spotlighted for his work in three different areas including beef production, forage production and specialty vegetable. Bryant's herd started with just nine head, but has since grown his operation by keeping back calves and replacement heifers, which now totals 32 head.

With his forage operation he's able to produce enough hay for his cattle and has enough left over to sell some. Bryant manages to put up about 350 round bales off 75 acres of grass with a few small bales in the mix as well.

His specialty crop takes up about half an acre. This past year, he grew nine different varieties of pumpkins and marketed them locally in Edmond, Okla. He says his experience raising specialty crops has helped to expand his knowledge of agriculture and agronomics.

"It was a learning experience. I learned some things about some pests that I have to control next year and I'm going to plant less varieties in the year to come. But, overall, it was a very positive experience."

Bryant dabbles in several other areas that his FFA chapter offers, including the Agriscience Fair, Agribusiness and the Mechanics team. After graduation he plans to pursue an animal science pre-vet degree at Oklahoma State University.
