Oklahoma FFA Hopeful for Another Great Year in Indianapolis at the 92nd National FFA Convention and Expo

Wed, 23 Oct 2019 16:36:16 CDT

Oklahoma FFA Hopeful for Another Great Year in Indianapolis at the 92nd National FFA Convention and Expo Fast approaching- the 2019 National FFA Convention and Expo is set to begin next week in Indianapolis, Indiana- and Oklahoma FFA's Executive Secretary Trevor Lucas tells Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays that he is ready for his second National Convention in his role with the state FFA.

His first year as Executive Secretary was a memorable one, as Oklahoma won the national sweepstakes award as the top FFA State in the country, based on number of award winning performances and achivements by Oklahoma FFA members while at the National Convention in Indianapolis. A statistical analysis of all state FFA associations determines this ranking based on each individual state's success in American Degrees, National Proficiency Awards, National Championship CDE and LDE Teams/Top 5 Team Winners, Agriscience Fair Winners/Top Five Placings, and National FFA Officers/Candidates.

In 2018, Oklahoma earned a total of 83.0 points out of the 100-point measuring device used to calculate scores. This is five points below last year's tie with California, both states earning 88.0 points that year in 2017. This is the second consecutive win as a top-ranking state for Oklahoma since it last earned the recognition in 2013. Historically, Oklahoma is ranked third on the list of "State of The Year" winners with an average of 81.0 points, trailing California (First) and Texas (Second).

Lucas says that things are looking really good for Oklahoma FFA again in 2019- with 33 Chapters that have qualified to be honored as three star chapters- the highest rating given by the National organization- he says that is the most Chapters ever with the three star rating- three Chapters as National Finalists in the Model of Innovation/ Excellence Award, 19 Proficiency Award Finalists, 23 Agriscience Finalists and a National Star Finalist for Star in Agribusiness- that being Blake Kennedy of Tecumseh.

Among adults who will be honored next week by the National FFA is Bob Funk of Express Ranches and Express Personnel- who will be one of 13 National VIP Honorees in 2019- he receives that award on Friday morning.

Take a look at the complete list of high achievers that will be competing and/or honored in Indianapolis during the 92nd National Convention- that comprehensive list is available here.
