Brooklan Light of Garber Advances to Phase Two of the National FFA Officer Selection Process in Indy

Tue, 29 Oct 2019 03:59:15 CDT

Brooklan Light of Garber Advances to Phase Two of the National FFA Officer Selection Process in Indy The 2019 National FFA Officer Selection Process began with 44 candidates from across the United States- on Monday evening, that number shrank to 25 for Phase Two of the selection in a process that will result in six of those young men and women becoming the 2019-2020 National FFA Officer Team. One of those members advancing was Brooklan Light of the Garber FFA Chapter. Brooklan served as the State FFA Reporter for Oklahoma FFA in 2017-18- the same year that Ridge Hughbanks of Alva served as State President. Last October, Hughbanks went thru the national FFA Officer Selection Process and was called out to be the Central Region Vice President on the current National Officer Team that is leading this year's National Convention General Sessions.

Light told us earlier that after she was named the National Officer Candidate for Oklahoma this past June- she had sought out the advice of Ridge Hughbanks as well as Piper Merritt of Owasso- who was also selected as a National Officer from Oklahoma two years ago here in Indianapolis. Preparation for the selection process began at that time- and has continued non stop since June as she worked to be ready for the different tasks that the National Nominating Committee is putting all of the candidates through.

The Monday night "advancement" is unique in that there is no public reading of the names that made phase two or did not make it- but rather each Candidate received a letter that told you either that your pursuit of a national office was over- or as the letter that Brooklan was handed said- "Congratulations- your performance in the national officer selection process has placed you in the top 50% in your region. You will be advancing to Phase two of the national officer selection process."

The letter goes on to say that the interviews continue Tuesday morning.

After Brooklan had opened her letter, she talked for a few moments with Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays about the first half of the selection process and what is ahead the next couple of days before she waits to hear whether or not her name will be called as one of the six new national officers on Saturday afternoon in the final general session of the 92nd Annual National FFA Convention.   Click on the LISTEN BAR below to hear that quick conversation.   You can also go back to our earlier visit from last week and hear more about her journey to this point- click or tap here for that earlier sstory.

Kyle Garner Florida
Willie Sizemore Georgia
