Meet Your 2019 National Proficiency Award Winner in Agriscience Research- Animal Systems- Riley Luginbill of Stillwater FFA

Meet Your 2019 National Proficiency Award Winner in Agriscience Research- Animal Systems- Riley Luginbill of Stillwater  FFA Three Oklahoma FFA Members brought home National Championships in the Agricultural Proficiency Awards as they were announced on Friday, November first at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis. One of those high achievers was Riley Luginbill of Stillwater FFA, winning in the Agriscience Research- Animal Systems category.

Riley Luginbill has conducted three research projects designed to improve the performance of racehorses. Her initial project tested horses' cardiovascular health based on which feed ration would best maintain a quicker recovery rate in performance horses. Her most recent project evaluated three types of iron boosting supplements for horses to determine which can best maintain a steady level of red blood cell counts to prevent anemia. Luginbill is supported by her parents, Jeannie and Bryan and her advisors Robby Branscum, Bailey Kliewer and Carl Nipper. This Award was sponsored by Zoetis.

The Agricultural Proficiency Awards honor FFA members who, through their Supervised Agricultural Experiences have developed specialized skills that they can apply toward their future careers. Students can compete for awards in 47 areas covering everything from Agricultural Communications to Wildlife Management. Each award area has two categories, placement and entrepreneurship- although in some award area- those two categories are combined.


Placement proficiency awards are given to those whose SAEs are related to employment, apprenticeships, or internships at an agribusiness or agriculture-related organization. Entrepreneurship proficiency awards are given to those whose SAEs are related to ownership of an agribusiness or agriculture-related organization. Proficiency awards are given out at the local, state and national levels.


Judging occurred in Indianapolis during the 92nd National FFA Convention & Expo, Oct. 31-Nov. 2, with the winners announced during an onstage ceremony on Friday, Nov. 1.
