Tuttle FFA is Reserve National Champion Team in Meats Judging-- Here's OKlahoma's Other High Placings

Tuttle FFA is Reserve National Champion Team in Meats Judging-- Here's OKlahoma's Other High Placings FFA members from across the United States participated in 26 National FFA Career & Leadership Development Events in 2021- with the finals of these events being judged in Indiaanpolis during the 94th National Convnetion of the FFA.


Oklahoma FFA members competed in all of these contests- with several teams and individuals bringing high honors back to Oklahoma after last week in Indy.


Individually, Jarod Stone of Chandler FFA made the National Finals in Extemporaneous Public Speaking- finishing fourth nationally.


Our highest placing team from Oklahoma in 2021 was the Tuttle FFA team in Meats Judging, placing second nationally- earning the Reserve National Championship. Team members include TAYLOR MCGILL, KIMBERLY BOYER, ADISON SMITH, and MADELYNE TINDER. The National FFA Meats Technology and Evaluation CDE is a competitive event that tests students' skills and competencies in evaluating and identifying meat carcasses and products. Event components include a general knowledge exam; beef carcass evaluation; identification of wholesale and retail cuts of beef, lamb, and pork; quality and yield grading of beef carcasses; a team meat merchandising event; and solving of a meat formulation problem.


Placing third nationally in the Ag Communications Contest was one of the newest FFA Chapters in the state of Oklahoma- the Bartlesville FFA Chapter. Team members include MATT FRIES, HALEY KING, ADYSEN GRINDLE, and MIA MERCIEZ. The National FFA Agricultural Communications CDE is a competitive event that tests students' skills in all areas of the agricultural communications field and evaluates how well they can apply classroom knowledge to real-life situations. Participants attend a simulated news conference and use the information gathered to complete individual practicums in writing, electronic media and design. Prior to the event, students compile media plans related to innovative agricultural practices, management techniques and marketing tools. Each team then creates a 15-minute presentation based on their proposal. Members also compete in an editing exercise and a general communications quiz.


Oklahoma also placed third naiotnally in the Agricultural Technology and Mechanical Systems Career Development Event- the team representing Oklahoma was the Morrison FFA Chapter. Team members include MASON HARRIS, CODY ALEXANDER, RYAN TAYLOR, and MATTHEW ALEXANDER. The National FFA Agricultural Technology and Mechanical Systems CDE is a competitive event that allows students to apply classroom knowledge to real-life situations. Activities included in the event are a written exam, a team event, demonstration of problem-solving skills, and hands-on performance activities. Areas of emphasis include environmental and natural resource systems, machinery and equipment systems, structural systems, energy systems and electrical systems.


Placing fifth in Poultry Evaluation was the Watts FFA Chapter. Members of the team include ETHAN PHILLIPS, CADEN WILLIS, ABIGAIL BELLER, and MEKENZIE BELLER. The National FFA Poultry Evaluation CDE is a competitive event that tests the participant's ability to select top quality poultry and poultry products needed for successful production and marketing. Event participants must complete a written exam on poultry management, evaluate classes of live birds for eggs and meat production, evaluate quality of eggs, and evaluate and identify parts and products.


Placing tenth nationally in the Livestock Judging Contest in 2021 was the Adair FFA Chapter team. Team members include Brooke Kemp, Dax Delozier, Blake Long, and Connor Pell. The National FFA Livestock CDE is a competitive event that tests the student's ability to select and evaluate livestock. Event components include eight evaluation classes of beef, sheep, swine, and goats; oral placement reasons on four classes; and a written exam on livestock production. A team activity, utilizing reproductive and marketing information, demonstrates the teams¶livestock selection ability.


Also placing tenth nationally was the Ag Sales Contest team from Elgin FFA. Team members include ANDREA PADILLA, BLAKLEY HOWARD, SADIE KEITH, and PAIGE BAXTER. The National FFA Agricultural Sales CDE is a competitive event that allows students to apply classroom knowledge to real-life situations. The event includes actual sales presentations, a written exam and a team sales situation.


In the Parliamentary Procedure and the Conduct of Meetings contests- the Kingfisher FFA Chapter represented Oklahoma in both categories- and while they did not make the National Final Four in either contest- they did receive a Gold Emblem for their efforts in 2021 in both.
