Wed, 30 Oct 2013 15:17:03 CDT
The National FFA Convention returning to Louisville is like returning to home for Joenelle Futrell, the National Eastern Region Vice President for 2012-2013. Home for Joenelle is actually about two hours west of Freedom Hall and the Kentucky Exposition Center- but this young lady from the Daviess County FFA Chapter in Owensboro, Kentucky still feels very much at home in Louisville, as she shares the 2013 national convention with 56,000 friends from across the United States and even beyond.
Futrell has been shaped by the leadership development aspects of the FFA organization- enough so that she wants to continue her education in Ag Education when she returns to school next spring and eventually become an Ag Education teacher.
Futrell talked with Farm Director Ron Hays during a break in their practice sessions for the Opening General Sessions of the National FFA Convention. In order to accomodate the huge crowd- Futrell and her fellow officers will do the same opening general session threee times.
You can hear Joenelle describe her homecoming, what FFA has meant to her, a quick overview of her year as a National Officer and what is ahead as she gets ready for life without her Blue and Gold jacket. Being a national officer has raised her desire to serve others. One way that she and other outgoing National Officers plan to serve and give back is by traveling to Liberia and offering some training in ag education. Futrell will maintain that theme of service through Ag Education when she returns to school, as he plans to obtain a degree in Ag Education and teach Ag. She has also decided to transfer from the University of Kentucky and has decided to transfer to the University of Florida to finish her college education.
