Tyler Schnaithman Remains in Position to Give Oklahoma FIVEPEAT in National Speech Contest
Thu, 31 Oct 2013 12:44:31 CDT
Could there be a fivepeat for Oklahoma in the Prepared Public Speech contest? That possibility is hanging out there- resting on the shoulders of Tyler Schnaithman of the Garber FFA Chapter and the current State Secretary for Oklahoma FFA. The Oklahoma FFA has won the national Prepared Public Speech Contest for the past four years straight- and Tyler is in a position where he could be the fifth in five years to claim that honor for Oklahoma. (Here you see Tyler all smiles as he talks with several of his FFA friends)
Earlier in 2013, Schnaithman took the state speech competition by storm, winning two of the Prepared Speech categories as well as the statewide Extemp Speech Contest. Tyler chose to speak in the Prepared Speech category in Louisville- and also made the decision to use his Plant Science Speech as the one he submitted to the national organization- a speech that extolled the benefits of modern production techniques in helping farmers and ranchers feed the world. By the way- you can click on the PDF link below to see the speech given by Tyler at the National contest in Louisville.
In the national prepared public speaking finals on Thursday in Louisville, Schnaithman drew first and made his case for modern production agriculture- calling it unfair that groups and even corporate entities like Whole Foods and Chipolte choose to disparage cutting edge breeding techniques and other other technology that is helping feed more people with fewer resources.
After the competition- we talked with Tyler about the contest and what still lies ahead for him in the FFA organization. Click on the LISTEN BAR to listen to our conversation.
