Adair and Kingfisher Chapters Headline the Team Results for Oklahoma FFA

The Adair and the Kingfisher FFA Chapters led the way for Oklahoma in team events at the 2013 National FFA Convention in Louisville. The Adair FFA Chapter had the National Champion Horse Evaluation Team, while the Kingfisher FFA Chapter had the National Champion Parliamentary Procedure Team. Five other Oklahoma teams also placed in their competitions held as a part of the 86th annual convention of the FFA.
The winning Adair Horse Evaluation team included Hunter Parsons, Blaine Mibb, Wyatt Smith, and Shelby White. Wyatt Smith placed first in the Individual rankings, while Blaine Mibb ranked seventh nationally in Horse Evaluation. The National FFA Horse Evaluation CDE is a competitive event that tests the student's ability to select and evaluate horses. Event components include eight selection classes that consisted of four halter classes and four performance classes. Students also give four sets of oral reasons with two sets coming from each evaluation class. Teams also work together to complete practical activities and a team presentation
Kingfisher FFA's Parliamentary Procedure team includes Katie Lippoldt, Trevor Woods, Gatlin Squires, Maegan Yost, Blair Kloeppel, and Jason Murray. The National FFA Parliamentary Procedure CDE tests students' ability to effectively communicate ideas during a meeting. Components included a general knowledge exam of parliamentary law, a ten-minute demonstration of parliamentary procedure, oral questions, written minutes of the demonstration as well as a team problem solving activity.
Placing second nationally in the Ag Communications contest was the Stillwater FFA Chapter. The team included Jacob Sitton, Adrienne Blakey, and Olivia Cornforth. Cornforth placed third nationally and Blakey placed fourth in the national competition. The National FFA Agricultural Communications CDE is a competitive event that tests students' skills in all areas of the agricultural communications field and evaluates how well they can apply classroom knowledge to real-life situations. Participants attend a simulated news conference and use the information gathered to complete individual practicums in writing, electronic media and design. Prior to the event, students compile media plans related to innovative agricultural practices, management techniques and marketing tools. Each team then creates a 15-minute presentation based on their proposal. Members also compete in an editing exercise and a general communications quiz.
Placing third nationally in the Ag Issues Forum was the Kingfisher FFA Chapter. Their team included Jaryn Frey, Sydnee Gerken, Brayden Foley, Colton Smith, Micah Mueggenborg, LaneHolt, and Sarah Gruntmeir. The Kingfisher team presented both sides of the wind energy controversy brewing in and around the Piedmont and Okarche communities in the southern part of Kingfisher County.
The Alva FFA Chapter represented Oklahoma in the Livestock Judging Contest and placed fourth nationally. Teams members included Kory Dietz, Courtney Mapes, Tanner Burton, and Traci Owen. Kory Dietz was the fourth high individual in the final rankings of the national contest.
In Food Sciences and Technology, the Burlington FFA Chapter placed sixth nationally, with team members including Carter Stewart, Jenna Maltbie, Heather Armbruster, and Richard Fischer.
Finally, in the Meats Technology and Evaluation Contest, Tuttle FFA represented Oklahoma and placed seventh nationally. Jacob McKinney, Haylee Collins, Blakely Byrd, and Austin Phipps are the members of the Tuttle FFA team that placed and received a Hold Emblem for their efforts.
Two Oklahoma teams did not crack the top ten in their contests- but did receive a Silver Emblem for their efforts. Prague FFA received a Silver Emblem in the Marketing Plan contest, while Amber Pocasset received a Silver Emblem in the Ag Sales Contest.
