Waiting For Saturday- National Officer Candidate Logan Johns is Ready to Serve- If His Name is Called

For Logan Johns, all he can do now is wait. The study, the one on one interviews, the group round table discussions and lots of interaction with almost two dozen other national officer candidates is at an end. Johns is the National Officer Candidate representing Oklahoma- and the only measurable success that can be seen during the week of the National FFA Convention came this past Tuesday evening when he received a sealed letter that said "Congratulations, you have been selected to be a finalist" to be considered to be on the 2015-2016 National FFA Officer team.

Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays talked with Logan Johns after he had made the 50% cut- and he explained his reason for wanting to be the Oklahoma representive to become a national FFA officer- how the process has gone and what he sees as his unique perspective that he could bring to a six member National officer team. Click on the LISTEN BAR below to listen to their full conversation.

Logan Johns told Hays that he felt in his heart that he had more to give back to FFA- and that was a major reason for his desire to make a run as the Oklahoma nominee. He says that the selection process that began here in Louisville on Sunday morning really picked up steam on Monday and by Tuesday was a non stop schedule of meetings, tests and interviews.

With half of the initital set of candidates gone- Logan says things were a little slower on Wednesday- but offered several new challenges for the candidates. A casual recreational event happened on Wednesday- final interview callbacks on Thursday and now all that is left to do is wait.

Logan tells Ron that one of the reasons that he has a passion to be a part of the final six FFA members standing is that he thinks he can relate to thousands of FFA members that come from families that have faced divorce or have been dysfunctional. He says that "As a 7th grader, my parents split up- I had some family issues I was going through and I needed something that supported me in everything- and I knew it was the FFA the second I got involved. Whenever I was having problems, I knew that this was a safe place I could turn to. Getting to serve as a national officer, that's the best way I can provide that kind of environment for other students who are out there that are like me."

So, Logan Johns waits and hopes he hears his name called on Saturday- and that he gets to put on a new FFA Blue and Gold Jacket that he can wear for one more year.
