Preparing for the National FFA Convention in Indy
Sat, 17 Oct 2009 15:49:33 CDT
The 81st National Convention is upon us- and this past week, many of the Oklahoma FFA members who will be competing in Indianapolis over the next seven days converged on Stillwater for a time of practice as a final tune up was held for these FFA members. One of those getting final instructions was the Creed contestant for the state of Oklahoma, Spencer Stuck of Kingfisher. In the picture, you can see Spencer getting some pointers from Kelly Barnes, who works with youth groups nationally as a leadership development trainer.
Oklahoma has 27 National Finalists in the Proficiency Award Competition here in 2009. Last year, Oklahoma had the most in the nation of any state with 21- and the 27 easily leads all other FFA State Associations in 2009. Wisconsin has 20 National Finalists, California 15; Georgia 14; Kansas 13; Illinois 12 and Texas 7. Mulhall-Orlando has three national finalists- the most of any single FFA Chapter in the nation, while the Adair, Burlington and Lomega FFA Chapters each having bragging rights for two National Finalists.
In addition, Oklahoma has 33 chapters that will be receiving the Three Star Award for program excellence, again easily the most of any state in the nation.
