Oklahoma's Oil and Gas Industry's First STACK Summer Classic Pig Show a Well-Attended Success

As part of Oklahoma Oil & Gas Association's (OKOGA) new community outreach program, OKOGA sponsored its first STACK Summer Classic pig show in Kingfisher, Oklahoma, on Saturday. More than 100 youth from across all of Oklahoma participated in the showing of 275 pigs at the Kingfisher Fair Grounds.
"The STACK Summer Classic was an excellent evening of celebrating Oklahoma's youth and their hard work on their livestock projects," said Bray Haven, OKOGA field representative. "The turnout was larger than we expected for it being the first year of this event. The oil and natural gas industry had a strong showing as well, with oil and gas employees whose kids competed in the show and others who came simply to show their support for the youth and to build relationships in the community. OKOGA member companies want to be good partners in the areas where we have active development. Our hope is this event is one of many to show our commitment to Oklahoma's communities and their local economies."
The Grand Champion prize of $1,000 in cash went to Ty Goss of the Leedey FFA chapter (pictured here) and the Reserve Champion prize of $500 cash went to Garrison Straka of the El Reno's 4-H chapter (pictured here).
Due to sponsorships from OKOGA member companies that covered operational costs, all entry fees went towards awarding more than $10,000 in cash and prizes. Nine Breed Champion exhibitors received Yeti Tundra Roadie coolers and nine Reserve Breed Champion exhibitors received 30-ounce drink tumblers. Sponsors included Chaparral Energy, Devon Energy, Cimarex, Cheniere Energy, Chesapeake Energy, Marathon Oil, and GEODynamics.
"OKOGA member companies made this event a resounding success," Bray continued. "Rockwater Energy and Select Energy sent two large cookers and endless supply of meats, and their employees grilled a free meal for everyone in attendance. Also, due to sponsorships from OKOGA member companies, every dollar the youth paid to enter the contest was given right back out in cash awards."
Earlier this year, OKOGA hired its first field representative, Bray Haven, who is responsible for fostering and enhancing relations between the oil and natural gas industry and community leaders and residents where active development is taking place.
