Join the Sirloin Club of Oklahoma February 7th for Charity Auction Supporting Our Youth in Agriculture

Join the Sirloin Club of Oklahoma February 7th for Charity Auction Supporting Our Youth in Agriculture Most people that have been involved directly or indirectly with exhibiting livestock through 4-H or FFA or other agricultural related youth programs, are probably familiar with their local livestock booster organizations that raise money to purchase animals at their county livestock shows. The Sirloin Club of Oklahoma is just like that, except the money it raises goes to support kids at the Oklahoma Youth Expo Sale of Champions. Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Associate Farm Director Carson Horn caught up with the Sirloin Club's president, Eric Money, to talk about the organization and its upcoming fundraising event.

The Club will host its annual banquet and chalice auction Wednesday, February 7th at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City. The evening's dinner and program will begin at 6:30 p.m., preceded by a cocktail social hour at 5:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public but Money jokingly warned that if you are not a member of the organization, you will probably be subject to some arm twisting to join. However, he invites everyone to join in the fun, food and fellowship in support of our state's youth in agriculture. The program features both a silent and live auction with items such as tickets to the Founder's Suite at AT&T "Jerry World" Stadium for an Oklahoma State University game, President's Suite Tickets to a game at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Thunder Basketball tickets- and much more. Attendees will also have the opportunity to bid on the premiere prizes of the night - the chalices awarded to champion exhibitors at the Oklahoma Youth Expo's Grand Drive.

"We've had a lot of really good years lately at the Oklahoma Youth Expo, even in what I would call somewhat challenging economic times," Money said. "Still, we've continued to see some great support at our event and going on to the OYE."

This annual event is the primary source of the group's fundraising efforts, followed by an annual membership drive that features a level of membership for every budget. Money says the group was first established in the 1950s by business leaders in the state that came together to support what was then called the Oklahoma City Fat Stock Show. Since then, it has evolved and now supports other youth events as well, such as the National Pastureland and Range Judging Contest held each year in Oklahoma and sponsors several scholarships through 4-H and FFA. Today, Money says being involved in the Sirloin Club is a way to give back to the organizations and support the leadership activities in which he himself participated during his youth.

"Most of our members including myself, have a history in rural Oklahoma and agricultural related youth leadership activities," he said. "I think anyone would say that those are the activities that we sure think helped shape who we've become and hope will continue to shape youth. There were a lot of people that supported me and other members of our organization when we were students. We want to do our part."
