Grand Champion Steer Shown by Mylah Testerman of Hollis FFA Sells for Record $62,000 at 2013 OYE

Grand Champion Steer Shown by Mylah Testerman of Hollis FFA Sells for Record $62,000 at 2013 OYE The Sale of Champions helped conclude the market animal phase of the 2013 Oklahoma Youth Expo- and for Mylah Testerman of the Hollis FFA, it turned out to be a great payday- and a record breaking sale of the Grand Champion Steer at the OYE.

The Hollis High School Freshman led Radar around the ring while the bidding started at $20,000 and quickly reached $60,000- and a couple of bids later- had climaxed at $62,000- the highest price ever at the OYE for the Grand Champion Steer. It eclipsed the $60,000 paid to Logan Davis of Newcastle FFA just a year ago. The winning bidder consortium includes Express Ranches; Bank of Western Oklahoma; McAfee & Taft, Hartzog, Conger, Cason, Neville; Tener's Western Outfitters; Chain Ranches; P&K Equipment; Robyn Promotions and Lopez Foods.

The Reserve Grand Champion Steer for the 2013 OYE was the second best Chianina in the show- and shown by Macy Groswold of Perkins-Tryon FFA. Macy, with a big smile on her face, saw her steer bid up to $15,000 before it was sold. The Bronze Medallion Steer was owned by Jacy Duff of Hobart FFA- Jacy received $7,500 for her Crossbred Champion Steer.

Overall- the Sale of Champions saw 215 animals offered- and OYE Executive Director Tyler Norvell reports that the final sale total approached $850,000- the highest overall sale total ever for what is known as the "World's Largest Junior Livestock Show."

From Earlier in the week- here is the complete rundown on the 2013 Steer Show- notice the link below of the FLICKR page where you can see all of our pictures of the OYE to date- including photos of the Sale of Champions:

*******

The Grand Champion Steer for the "World's Largest Junior Livestock Show" was shown on Thursday evening by Myhla Testerman of the Hollis FFA. Her Champion Chianina became best in show- earning her the right to walk in "Radar" Friday afternoon to the sale ring to kick off the 2013 Sael of Champions. Radar is the steer's name, according to Kate, because of the way his stand up and forward. Jackson is a freshman in High School- and says she plans to take the money from the sale of her Grand Champion and go find more steers. (Myhla and her steer are pictured here)

The Reserve Grand Champion Steer for the 2013 OYE was another Chianina- the Reserve of that breed was the second best steer out of 525 shown- and was shown and owned by Macy Griswold of Perkins Tryon FFA.

The Bronze Medallion Steer was the Crossbred Champion- shown by Jacy Duff of the Hobart FFA.
