Breeding Gilt Show at 2013 OYE- Supreme Champs Selected and Sale Details Announced

Breeding Gilt Show at 2013 OYE- Supreme Champs Selected and Sale Details Announced As the 2013 Oklahoma Youth Expo winds down- beef heifers and breeding gilts were shown on Monday, March 25. In the case of the breeding gilt show, it was day two, with the Commercial breeding gilts (Crossbreds) being shown. On Sunday- it was the purebred classes that were shown and a supreme champion in that part of the show was named- Ashtyn Stenger of Carnegie FFA showed the Champion Hamp which was selected to be the Supreme Purebred Gilt of the 2013 OYE. Judge Kent Bennington of Indiana stayed with the Hampshire breed for his Reserve Supreme Champion- picking the gilt shown by Cade Moore of the Hobart 4-H club.


Meanwhile, the Monday breeding gilt show focused on Commercial gilts- and the Supreme Commercial Breeding Gilt was shown by Taylor Wolff of the Stroud FFA, while the Reserve is owned and shown by Rachel Beames of Howe 4-H.


The Champions and other top females will be involved in the "Night of 100 Stars Select Gilt Sale" that is happening during the day this year- starting at 10 AM on Tuesday. Click here for the complete lineup of the 100 gilts that will sell.

Berkshire Champion Gilt- Morgan Vaverka, El Reno 4-H
Berkshire Reserve Champion- Thomas Green, Washington 4-H


Chester White Champion Gilt- Kooper Branum, Sterling 4-H
Chester White Reserve Champion- Cobey McLemore, Anadarko FFA


Duroc Champion Gilt- Clayton Davison, Guthrie FFA
Duroc Reserve Champion- Matt Whelan, Eufaula FFA


Hampshire Champion Gilt- Ashtyn Stenger, Carnegie FFA (Also Supreme Purebred Champion- to sell third in the Gilt Sale)
Hampshire Reserve Champion- CAde Moore, Hobart 4-H (Reserve Supreme Champion)
