Grand Champion Barrow- Owned by Kate Jackson of Mountain View- Gotebo 4-H Sells for $17,500 at 2013 OYE (updated) The Sale of Champions helped conclude the market animal phase of the 2013 Oklahoma Youth Expo- and for Mountain View-Gotebo 4-her Kate Jackson, it turned out to be a great payday, as her Crossbred barrow brought $17,500- matching the amount of money the 2012 Grand Champion Barrow sold for last March. The buyers of the 2013 OYE Grand Chamion Barrow included Touchstone Energy, Oklahoma Farm Bureau and Farm Credit of Western Oklahoma.

The Reserve Grand Champion Barrow was shown by Rhylee Straka of El Reno 4-H- and her barrow sold for $15,000 while the Bronze Medallion Barrow- owned by Emily Franke of Covington-Douglas FFA- commanded a premium sale price of $6,500.

Overall- the Sale of Champions saw 215 animals offered- and OYE Executive Director Tyler Norvell reports that the final sale total approached $850,000- the highest overall sale total ever for what is known as the "World's Largest Junior Livestock Show."

From Earlier in the week- here is the complete rundown on the 2013 Barrow Show- notice the link below of the FLICKR page where you can see all of our pictures of the OYE to date- including photos of the Sale of Champions:

A total of 2400 market hogs were seen by sift judge Travis Platt of Roanoke, Indiana- with the best of what he saw examined by Main Show Ring Judge Ben Bobell of Illinois. After three days of showing, they wrapped up the 2013 Oklahoma Youth Expo Barrow show during the Grand Champion selection process by going with the Champion Crossbred shown by Kate Jackson-a
4-Her from Mountain View-Gotebo.

The judges stuck with the Crossbreds for their Reserve Grand Champion- Rhylee Straka showing the number two hog in the entire show- Ryhlee is from El Reno and is a part of the Canadian County 4-H.

The third highest ranked barrow received the Bronze Medallion- and that was the Champion Hampshire- as shown by Emily Franke of Covington-Douglas FFA.
