Grand Champion Market Goat at 2014 OYE Sells for $14,000

Sun, 23 Mar 2014 07:03:06 CDT

Grand Champion Market Goat at 2014 OYE Sells for $14,000 The Sale of Champions at the 2014 Oklahoma Youth Expo had strong support from the state's business community, farm organizations, Indian tribes and even individuals- and that support added up to a record of more than $950,000 in gross receipts for the 210 animals that were a part of the sale. Those dollars were on top of market value of the animals in this premium sale. For the 2014 Grand Champion Goat- the final bid was $14,000 for owner Emily Jackson of the Hartshorne FFA. The group of buyers that purchased the first market Goat sold on Friday afternoon includes Showrite Feeds, Choctaw Nation, McDonald's and Farm Credit.

The Reserve Grand Champion Goat for 2014 was shown by Braden Shovanec of the Garber FFA, who won the OYE Goat competition in 2013. Shovanec saw his 2014 Reserve Champion Goat bring $9,000. The Bronze Medallion Goat was shown Ty Neeley of the Asher FFA Chapter- the third highest placing Goat in the OYE for 2014 brought $6,500.

Here are the details of the 2014 Oklahoma Youth Expo Market Goat Show- as reported earlier in our Blue Green Gzaette:

****************************

Of the thousands of market animals that were exhibited by their young 4-H and FFA owners this week at State Fair Park in Oklahoma City, it all came down to the final handful of top animals that were in the hunt for the Grand Championship for their species. For the Market Goats- the best of best was shown by Emily Jackson with her Division One winner. The owner of the Grand Champion Market Goat is a member of the Hartshorne FFA Chapter and has been a division winner before in the Market Goat show at the OYE- winning the heavy weight Division four a year ago. Her goat this year was the winner of Division One- the lightest goats in the 2014 show.

Reserve Grand Champion Market Goat was shown by Braden Schovanec of the Garber FFA Chapter- this goat was the Division three Champion. Braden is no stranger to owning one of the top goats at OYE,as he had the Grand Champion Goat two years ago in 2012.
