Grand Champion Market Lamb at 2014 OYE Sells for $20,000

Sun, 23 Mar 2014 07:25:54 CDT

Grand Champion Market Lamb at 2014 OYE Sells for $20,000 The Sale of Champions at the 2014 Oklahoma Youth Expo had strong support from the state's business community, farm organizations, Indian tribes and even individuals- and that support added up to a record of more than $950,000 in gross receipts for the 210 animals that were a part of the sale. Those dollars were on top of market value of the animals in this premium sale. For the 2014 Grand Champion Lamb- the final bid was $20,000 for owner Kyle Davis of the Guthrie FFA. The group of buyers that purchased the top market Lamb sold on Friday afternoon includes Touchstone Energy,, Mangum and Bank of Western Oklahoma.

The Reserve Grand Champion Lamb for 2014 was shown by Tyler Rhodes of Indiahoma FFA, who has won the OYE Lamb show twice before. Rhodes saw his 2014 Reserve Champion Lamb bring $9,000, purchased by Central State Trailers. The Bronze Medallion Lamb was shown Lydia Straka of the El Reno 4-H Club- the third highest placing Lamb in the OYE for 2014 brought $6,000.

Here are the details of the 2014 Oklahoma Youth Expo Market Lamb Show- as reported earlier in our Blue Green Gzaette:

Of the thousands of market animals that were exhibited by their young 4-H and FFA owners this week at State Fair Park in Oklahoma City, it all came down to the final handful of top animals that were in the hunt for the Grand Championship for their species. For the Market lambs- the best of best was shown by Kyle Davis of the Guthrie FFA Chapter. His Champion Crossbred was declared the Grand Champion on Thursday evening during the Grand Champion Drive in the Norrick Arena.

The Reserve Grand Champion Market Lamb was shown by a past Grand Champion winner at the OYE in the market lamb division- Tyler Rhodes of Indiahoma FFA. Tyler owned and showed the Grand Champion lambs in 2010 and 2012 at the OYE- and just missed his third Grand Champion win here in 2014. Rhodes won Reserve honors with his Champion Hampshire market lamb.

Davis and Rhodes will join about 200 other 4-H and FFA members who will be able to say "I made the sale" as they will help headline the Sale of Champions on Friday afternoon at State Fair Park in Oklahoma City, beginning at 4 PM.

Pictures of all of the action over the course of the OYE thus far can be found in the photo set for the 2014 Oklahoma Youth Expo we have set up on FLICKR- Click here to go and check out our growing number of pictures in our 2014 collection.
