ITC Great Plains Steadfast in Its Support of Oklahoma's Youth in Agriculture with OYE Sponsorship

Wed, 22 Mar 2017 09:06:16 CDT

ITC Great Plains Steadfast in Its Support of Oklahoma's Youth in Agriculture with OYE Sponsorship Ken Goodnight, regional manager of local government and community affairs for ITC Great Plains, represented the nation's largest independent transmission-only utility company at the Oklahoma Youth Expo this week, during the presentation of scholarships prior to the grand drive.

As a major sponsor of youth programs such as 4H and FFA in Oklahoma and in the six other states in which they operate, Goodnight told Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays, ITC knows and understands the importance of being involved and supporting youth in agriculture. "We as a company rely on engineers - those type of kids coming up and receiving higher education, we're wanting to promote them into the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) activities and encourage them to continue on with their education," Goodnight said. "It's good for us to be here and share that."

ITC supports other youth organizations currently but Goodnight says FFA and 4H in particular, gives those children involved a great opportunity to develop their social and leadership skills, and agrees that OYE is the perfect place to showcase their talents.

"There's a reward for all of this," he said. "These kids have worked all year long on these projects. This is an opportunity for an end of the year culmination, for them to be recognized for all their hard work."
