Jack Staats Named Show Honoree for the 2019 Oklahoma Youth Expo
Fri, 15 Feb 2019 10:36:45 CST
For over fifty years, the Oklahoma Youth Expo and the junior livestock shows that preceded it have named a Show Honoree. That tradition continues in 2019- and the Sirloin Club of Oklahoma annonced their 2019 Honoree, Jack Staats, the Program Manager for Agriculture at Oklahoma CareerTech and State Advisor for the Oklahoma FFA.
Staats is a graduate of Oklahoma State University and was a successful Ag Teacher in three Oklahoma schools- Freedom, Buffalo and Alva. Staats joined what is now Oklahoma CareerTech in 2007, taking on the role of Program Manager for the Ag Education Program in Oklahoma and has served as the State FFA Advisor for one of the premiere state FFA programs in the country. Staats is one of the driving forces in helping Oklahoma consistently be in the top tier of state FFA programs, reflected in the high placing annually by Oklahoma at the National FFA Convention- and in the total membership of FFA with Oklahoma in the top five nationally.
After Staats was honored on Tuesday evening at a Sirloin Club banquet one month out from the start of the 2019 OYE, Radio Oklahoma Farm Director Ron Hays talked with Staats. The State FFA Advisor expressed his gratitude to join the ranks of Show Honorees- telling Hays "I'm excited to be wearing the same jacket as so many people I have had so much admiration for."
He added it is all about the young people and how the OYE has helped 4-H and FFA members learn so many life skills. "Let's talk about an event that can make us proud about Oklahoma agriculture" and how it has been a family tradition that has gotten stronger and stronger and is a program that is the envy of other states.
