Mon, 16 Mar 2009 21:37:29 CDT
The 2009 Grand Champion Wether Goat was shown on Monday afternoon by Mercedes Hardin, a sophomore in Hennessey and a member of the Hennessey FFA Chapter. Her goat that claimed the Division IV Championship was selected as the best in the show of some 1,100 animals by judge Terry Burks. Our picture here is of Terry Burks, Mercedes holding her goat and her Dad, Brent Hardin, holding the Grand Champion trophy.
Mercedes tells us that this was her first year showing goats- that she had been showing lambs since she was nine years old- but had made the switch this past summer when she bought several goats, including the one she named Joe Black, the winner of the OYE here in 2009.
Reserve Grand Champion Wether Goat for 2009 is owned and was shown by Chance Greenroyd of the Noble FFA Chapter. The Reserve Grand Goat was the winner of Division II. The Bronze Medallion Winner(third place overall) was shown by Lora Riley of the Alva 4-H Club- Lora's Goat was the winner of Division I.
The Division IV top Goat was also shown by Mercedes Hardin, which means that she won two of the weight divisions in her first try in the Meat Goat competition at the Oklahoma Youth Expo.
The four Reserve Champion winners in the four divisions include the four winners:
Division I Reserve- Laurin Groom of the Poteau FFA
Division II Reserve- Chance Greenroyd of the Noble FFA
Division II-Cody Slater of the Fairview FFA
