Grand Champion Steer at Oklahoma Youth Expo Sets Record- Bringing $53,000.00 for Ty Stierwalt of Leedey

The owner of the 2009 Grand Champion Market Steer, Ty Stierwalt of the Leedey FFA, received a record payday for the Oklahoma Youth Expo of $53,000. That bested the $52,000 paid for the Grand Champion Steer sold last year.
Stierwalt is a senior at Leedey High School. His steer, nicknamed Dan, was the Champion Crossbred of the show and weighed in at 1335 pounds.
The combine that stepped up and bought the Grand Champion Steer that led off the 2009 Oklahoma Youth Expo Sale of Champions included Express Ranches, Bank of Western Oklahoma, Robyn Printing, McAfee & Taft, Chain Land and Cattle Company, the Diamond Hats, Jarold & Jennifer Callahan, Teners, and the Choctaw Nation.
The reserve Grand Champion Steer sold for $15,000 and was purchased by the Daily Oklahoman and the State Fair of Oklahoma. The Steer was owned by Ry Schneider of the Grady County 4-H club.
In our video box below, we have a Windows Media Video file of the Grand Champion sale- I love the line that Eddie Sims offered up to the owner of the steer as it became clear that the record had been broken- "Can you grin boy?" Take a look and listen at the action from Monday afternoon at the State Fair Arena.
