Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association Endorses Attorney General Gentner Drummond for Governor of Oklahoma

Farm Director KC Sheperd was in the room on Thursday at the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association’s 2025 Policy Meeting today as nearly eighteen months before any primary elections, the OCA announced its endorsement of Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond for Governor of Oklahoma. Earlier this month, Drummond announced that he is running for the office in 2026.

Drummond believes that his background in agriculture combined with his willful authenticity is what appeals to the OCA. “I hate being anything but authentic, and I have had too many people ask, ‘Gentner, are you running for governor in ‘26?’ I am tired of deflecting that question. Yes. I am running for governor in ’26.”

Returning to litigation questions, Sheperd asked about his lawsuits against the former Biden administration. “We have seventeen active lawsuits in federal court against the Biden administration,” he said. “We have great confidence that the Trump administration will come in and support agriculture in Oklahoma. Get the Fish and Wildlife off of our backs. He will support the production of oil and gas across the state by getting the EPA off of our backs. There are so many things that were adverse on the litigation side with the Biden administration that I think we will have great results.”

Secretary of Ag Nominee Brook Rollins Wins Over Senate Ag Committee in Confirmation Process

The Senate Ag Committee spent their Thursday interacting with President Trump’s nominee to be his Secretary of Agriculture, Brooke Rollins. There were very few moments when Mrs. Rollins was not warmly and positively interacting with Senators from both sides of the aisle.

The Texas native spent time detailing her days growing up in Glen Rose, Texas, being involved in 4-H and FFA before heading to Texas A&M to study ag leadership and then working for Governor Rick Perry and then later for Donald Trump in his first term. She told the Senators that she was on the road traveling from Texas to Alabama when President Donald Trump called her to discuss becoming his Secretary of Agriculture.

She told the Committee she is excited about becoming the Trump Administration’s Secretary of Ag and she pointed to the quote from Thomas Jefferson on the worth of agriculture- “Agriculture is our wisest pursuit because it will, in the end, contribute most to real wealth, good morals and happiness.”

Rollins says she understands that farmers and ranchers are facing huge problems, calling current economic issues “one of the most economically challenging times in American agriculture history.”

Behind the Brand: Understanding Certified Angus Beef with Bruce Cobb

During Cattlemen’s Congress, Senior Farm and Ranch Broadcaster Ron Hays had the opportunity to sit down with Executive Vice President of Production for Certified Angus Beef (CAB) Bruce Cobb. They discussed the quality improvements in beef, the sky-high demand, and the impending herd rebuild and what it will do for the beef industry.

Cobb says that the process of improving beef quality isn’t as complicated as some might think. “It is all about the consumer,” he said. “If we will stay focused on what the consumer wants, the producers who are focused on high quality will continue to win.”

According to Cobb, the consumer has demanded Certified Angus Beef year after year and that demand is growing.

“We can see it, not just in the demand signals, but also in economic signals,” Cobb explained. “Look at the value of a Certified Angus Beef carcass versus a Choice carcass versus a Select carcass – the economic values are significantly different.”

Oklahoma State Treasurer Applauds Major Win for Fiduciary Responsibility and Economic Integrity

The U.S. District Court decision involving American Airlines and BlackRock delivers a resounding validation of Oklahoma’s efforts to protect financial integrity and prioritize fiduciary responsibility. This ruling highlights how ESG policies, when prioritized over financial returns, constitute a breach of fiduciary duty—a concern Oklahoma has raised for years through the Energy Discrimination Elimination Act and the Restricted Financial Company List.

“The legislature saw the writing on the wall—this breach of duty—and took action,” said State Treasurer Todd Russ. “I picked up the mantle and made it clear: Oklahoma’s tax dollars and pension funds will not support companies undermining their fiduciary responsibilities. This court decision confirms what we’ve said all along—it’s dangerous, it’s a breach, and it’s exactly what we’ve been fighting against.”

The judge in the U.S. District Court case, Spence v. American Airlines, specifically noted that considering Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors in fiduciary decisions was central to the breach of duty under ERISA.

The Legal Two Step Over Filing a BOI With the Feds Continues

According to a web story of the Journal of Accountancy- there is no need to call the accountant again over the paperwork that has been hanging over the heads of almost all small business owners for an extended amount of time- the Department of Treasury has not weighed in on a Supreme Court Ruling on Thursday- at least not yet.

"A nationwide federal court order barring enforcement of beneficial ownership information (BOI) reporting requirements remains in effect, according to the legal team that filed the case, despite a Supreme Court ruling Thursday in a separate BOI case.

"The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), the federal agency charged with enforcing BOI requirements, had yet to issue a statement clarifying its position following the Supreme Court ruling as of Thursday evening.

The Supreme Court earlier on Thursday issued a stay of a nationwide injunction that banned enforcement of BOI filing requirements in Texas Top Cop Shop, Inc. v. Garland . As a result, it initially appeared that BOI filing might begin soon.

However, the Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF), which represented the plaintiffs in the second case, Samantha Smith and Robert Means vs. U.S. Department of Treasury, said in a news release Thursday that its case is not affected by the one in which the Supreme Court issued a stay.

"As the judge who issued the order emphasized, TPPF's case is based on different facts and arguments from the one in front of the Supreme Court," the release said.

"In that case, the judge cited 5 U.S. Code Sec. 705, relief pending review, which says a reviewing court "may issue all necessary and appropriate process to postpone the effective date of an agency action to preserve status or rights."

Oklahoma State Treasurer Todd Russ issued a statement Thursday evening expressing his concerns over this lates ruling- saying he is hopeful the new Administration and/or Congress will step in soon to fix this huge mess that impacts most farmers and ranchers.

Angus Foundation Highlights Successes in January

The month of January successfully launched an exciting new year for the Angus Foundation, bringing with it numerous opportunities to advance education, youth and research. Thanks to the generous support garnered through the events held in conjunction with the Cattlemen’s Congress in Oklahoma City, this year is already shaping up to be another impactful year for the Foundation.

The enthusiasm and contributions in support of the Foundation’s missions, helped raised over $150,000.00 through Join us in January events like the Angus Foundation Heifer Package and Herdsman Social Auction.

“The funds help us to have continued success for our Angus membership; through leadership and educational development, advancement of the breed’s genetics and development of our next generation,” said Jaclyn Boester, Angus Foundation, executive director. “It is astonishing to have the unwavering support of our donors and supporters to keep advancing our Foundation’s mission.”

The Foundation was also fortunate enough to have a Fund the Future lot offered in the Bases Loaded Sale to raise money for the Angus Fund, which provides unrestricted funding for Angus education, youth programs, and research. The Angus Fund supports various initiatives, including academic scholarships, leadership conferences, and cutting-edge research aimed at enhancing the breed’s future. One Ag View of the Trump Executive Orders- Courtesy of the American Soybean Association

The American Soybean Association offers this review of the EOs that have been signed by President Donald Trump- most of them coming out this past Monday within hours of him being sworn in as the 47th President of the US.

"President Donald Trump started his second term in office with a series of 28 executive orders and actions that create the framework of policy priorities for his administration and make good on several campaign promises. His actions touch on just about every aspect of governing, including immigration, trade, foreign policy, federal workforce, climate, energy production, healthcare and more.

"Trump has taken an immediate, hard stand on immigration and border policy, issuing sweeping reforms to deport undocumented immigrants, redefine birthright citizenship, and broaden the authority of the Department of Homeland Security. While none of these actions directly impact farm labor programs, there may be future indirect effects.

"Trump withdrew the U.S. from the Paris climate agreement and declared a “national energy emergency” to broaden oil leasing both on- and offshore and to tap the strategic petroleum reserve. Trump also compelled the Army Corps to utilize emergency permitting to the “fullest extent possible” to bypass Endangered Species Act reviews and speed up energy projects—an action that could kickstart pipeline projects throughout farm country. In addition, Trump ordered the elimination of the “electric vehicle mandate,” which essentially revoked the non-binding goal set by the Biden administration that EVs make up half of new car sales by 2030. What will be impactful from this order, however, is the termination of the federal waiver for California to phase out cars with internal combustion engines by 2035."
