Pioneer to Offer a Wide Range of New Genetics in 2010

Pioneer Hybrid, a DuPont business, is releasing 80 new Pioneer brand products for growers across North America for the 2010 planting season. This new advancement class includes 46 new hybrids from 38 new genetic platforms providing improved genetic gain across all maturities.

The 2010 lineup features both new double-stack and triple-stack products with Herculex insect protection and the Roundup Ready Corn 2 trait. Pioneer is committed to providing both genetic and technology solutions that help growers plant the right product on the right acre.

The 2010 class is the result of an increased effort in localized testing, featuring advancement decisions made by local area management and agronomy teams. The localized testing and decision-making help ensure Pioneer continues to deliver local performance advantages and traits that meet customers' needs on a field-by-field basis.

"This new class will continue to provide genetic diversity and top-end yield potential combined with industry-leading test weight and grain quality consistent with the results of the 2009 NCGA Corn Grower's Contest," says Bob Heimbaugh, North American director of corn product evaluation for Pioneer. "Growers planting Pioneer hybrids won 71 percent of the 24 national categories with 11 different hybrids, including five first-place finishes. Ten of these growers had yields exceeding 300 bushels per acre with the winning entry at 346.02 bushels per acre."

Of the 80 new commercial hybrids, 28 are double-stack products. These hybrids contain the Herculex I gene and the Roundup Ready Corn 2 trait. The Herculex I trait protects against European and southwestern corn borer, western bean cutworm, black cutworm, fall armyworm, corn earworm, sugarcane borer, southern cornstalk borer and lesser cornstalk borer.

This 2010 class also contains 22 triple-stack hybrids, with protection featuring the Herculex XTRA traits. Herculex XTRA is a combination of Herculex I and Herculex® RW rootworm protection, which in addition to above-ground protection, delivers below-ground protection from western, northern and Mexican corn rootworms.

"Pioneer's localized corn testing and decision-making continue to bring strong products to the market," Heimbaugh says. "Pioneer also provides industry-leading products to meet end-use market demands for white, waxy and non-GM export markets by both growers and processors.

"The strength of this new class features nine new genetic platforms at 96 to 101 CRM and eight new platforms at 107 to 110 CRM," says Heimbaugh. "A new white corn platform is being released at 115 CRM with technology traits and improved yield over the industry-leader 32B10 platform. This class also features two new hybrids at 110 and 115 CRM to add to the silage lineup."
