Oklahoma Rep to National Peanut Board Sought
Sun, 07 Feb 2010 14:49:41 CSTThe Oklahoma Peanut Commission (OPC) is seeking eligible peanut producers who are interested in serving on the National Peanut Board (NPB). The OPC will hold a nominations election to select a member and alternate to the NPB during the Oklahoma Peanut Expo on March 5 at noon at the Quartz Mountain Resort near Lone Wolf. All eligible producers are encouraged to participate.
John Clay of Carnegie is the current Oklahoma NPB member and Gayle White of Frederick serves as the alternate. The term for the current Oklahoma board member and alternate expires December 31, 2009. USDA requires two nominees from each state for each position of member and alternate. The NPB will submit Oklahoma's slate of nominees to the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, who makes the appointments.
The NPB encourages inclusion of persons of any race, color, national origin, gender, religion, age, disability, political beliefs, sexual orientation, and marital or family status. NPB encourages all persons who qualify as peanut producers to attend the meeting and run for nomination. It is USDA's policy that membership on industry-government boards and committees accurately reflect the diversity of individuals served by the programs.
The Oklahoma Peanut Commission has been promoting, by education and research, the greater use of Oklahoma grown peanuts since 1965. For more information on the nomination meeting, contact the OPC at 405-275-5994 or via email at okpeanut@sbcglobal.net .
The National Peanut Board represents all USA peanut farmers and their families. Through research and marketing initiatives the NPB is finding new ways to enhance production and increase consumer demand by promoting the great taste, nutrition and culinary versatility of USA-grown peanuts.
