Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack Optimistic About Upcoming General CRP Signup
Sat, 06 Mar 2010 12:32:08 CST
Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack talked with reporters after his speech to the General Session of the 2010 Commodity Classic in Anaheim on Friday. He addressed a variety of subjects in his almost thirty minutes with the media, including a question that we posed to him regarding the next general signup for the Conservation Reserve Program, or CRP.
Just a few weeks earlier, the Department announced that for the first time in several years, there will be a general signup for the program, as USDA hopes to replace several million acres that come out of the program in the fall of 2010. Click here for the news release from USDA detailing their plans for a general signup.
We asked Secretary Vilsack about the Obama Administration's intentions on the direction of this program- and also asked about rental rates this go round- and if there will be adequate resources to attract the number of acres that USDA would like to bring in.
