NCBA's Colin Woodall Likes Any and All Pressure that Can Be Brought to Bear on Japan to Increase Access for US Beef
Sun, 28 Mar 2010 16:45:09 CDT
We talk with NCBA lobbyist Colin Woodall about a couple of issues on the Thursday Beef Buzz- including the recent resolution introduced by US Senators Mike Johanns and Blanche Lincoln about the need for the US government to push for a further widening of trade access for US beef into Japan. Woodall tells us that his organization welcomes the resolution, even as they recognize that it does not carry any obligation on either the US and Japanese government officials. Woodall says the good thing is that it raises the awareness of the issue and points out that Japan has no sound science to back its continuing ban on any US beef produced from cows older than 20 months of age.
In today's Beef Buzz, we also talk with Woodall about the issue of Animal ID- and he tells us that NCBA likes the idea of the states having more control of animal ID- and that he thinks that with today's technology, systems from all of the different states will be able to talk to one another and help quickly do disease traceback as needed.
The Beef Buzz is a regular feature heard on radio stations around the state on the Radio Oklahoma Network- but is also a regular audio feature found on this website as well.
