USDA Releases 2010 Benchmark State Yields and Actual 2009 State Yields

USDA today released 2009 actual and 2010 benchmark yields for Average Crop Revenue Election (ACRE) program for wheat, long grain rice, medium grain rice, oats and barley in a majority of states. USDA will publish data for additional states and other crops as it becomes available.
Actual and benchmark yields are used in calculating payments through ACRE, which provides producers an option to protect themselves against declines in market revenue. USDA also reminds producers they have until June 1, 2010, to enroll their farms in either the 2010 Direct and Counter-cyclical Program (DCP) or the ACRE program. The decision to enroll in the ACRE program is irrevocable. Once enrolled, the farm shall be enrolled for that initial crop year and will remain in ACRE through the 2012 crop year. The June 1, 2010, deadline is mandatory for all participants.
The wheat final guarantee price for 2009 is $6.63, while the current 2009-2010 forecast is currently $4.90. The final price for the 2009-2010 season will be out after June 29, 2010. This diffrence makes it likely that the pushing to get people that were basically all wheat on their farms in Oklahoma to sign up for ACRE last summer should result in a substantial payment per acre. All Wheat- lowest yield for the most recent yield plug came in Beaver County at 20.9 bushels- the highest was found in Oklahoma County with 44.7 bushels.
The range for grain sorghum yields is from 31.3 bushels for Washita County up to 61.1 bushels per acre in Garfield County. For peanuts, the range in pounds per acre was 1,326 pounds in Okmulgee County versus the top county yield of 4,677 in Custer County.
Soybean yields in the least productive county that had production in the state was 13.7 bushels per acre in Marshall County versus the high water mark of 49.6 bushels in Roger Mills County. Irrigated cotton had a low county yield of 656 pounds of lint per acre versus 1275 pounds in Garvin County. The worst county irrigated yield was better than the best non irrigated cotton county yield of 484 pounds in Garvin County- low water mark for cotton county yields was 208 pounds in Creek County.
