An Oklahoma Farm Wife and Mom is one of five regional winners in a contest that is being sponsored by Monsanto called America's Farmers Mom of the Year 2010. Carol Cowan of Watonga was nominated by her family and friends and has already won the southwest region competition. She is now in a national online contest that is underway today and goes through May 3rd.
The website for this contest- and where you can go to vote for Carol is available by clicking here.
We talked with Carol at the Southern Plains Farm Show on Saturday about this contest, and you can hear our quick visit with her by clicking on the Listen Bar below. She's already has won $5,000 for her regional win- and could win another $2,500 if she wins the National Title of America's Farmers Mom of the Year for 2010.
Cowan is a member of Class 14 of the Oklahoma Ag Leadership Program, the class that their concluding class seminar earlier this month, graduation. The picture here of Carol is during one of the OALP Seminars where she was acting as chairman for a session in Oklahoma City.
At the site where you can go to vote, there is a bio that was provided of Carol- written by a friend of hers, Nancy Baker. Here's that Bio of Carol Cowan:
"Carol Cowan was raised on farm, so she's no stranger to hard work. Cowan has lived in Watonga all her married life and helps her husband grow wheat, soybeans, alfalfa and raise cattle. She has taken many meals to the field so they could keep working to get harvest done. And I'm talking big meals; no sandwiches for her family. She knows and cares about what's needed to keep up your strength doing the hard labor that farmers do. She and her husband have raised four children and their son now farms with them. Family is very important to Carol as I have watched her with her parents, husband and children. She was very involved in her children's school activities and volunteered her service many times. She has been a sponsor on many church and school sponsored trips. And even finds time to support the American Cancer Society Relay for Life each year. Carol is also active in her college alumni. She just finished her Oklahoma Agricultural Leadership Program with a great trip to Spain and Morocco. She is always looking for ways to learn more about agriculture. Most moms only have a one job, maybe two, but Carol wears many hats and enjoys them all. I believe our country would have better people in it if they were all raised on a farm with Carol. She could show anyone how hard, honest work will make you happy and successful. Every family needs a mom like Carol."
