Fundamentals Look Great for the Feeder and Stocker Markets- Dr. Derrell Peel
Wed, 28 Apr 2010 7:08:27 CDT
Feeer Cattle Prices have followed along closely with the strength in the slaughter cattle market this spring- and Extension Livestock Market Economist Dr. Derrell Peel believes that the yearling market remains fundamentally very strong.
One key to this strength- the profits being booked by feedlot operators. They have money to bid up the price of yearlings- and in many cases that is exactly what is happening. Another key is that the overall supply of yearling cattle remains tight- and based on cattle inventory numbers from earlier this year, that won't change anytime soon.
We also talk on this Beef Buzz with Dr. Peel about the calf trade. While we are past the peak of the spring calf run, numbers remain moderate- and there is interest in buying those calves for summer pasture programs, especially with the excellent moisture profile we have in much of the country.
The Beef Buzz is a regular feature heard on radio stations around the state on the Radio Oklahoma Network- but is also a regular audio feature found on this website as well.
