Ashton Mese of Kingfisher Wins State Extemp Speech Contest

Ashton Mese of Kingfisher won first place in the extemporaneous division of the State FFA Speech Contest during the Oklahoma FFA Career Development Events at Oklahoma State University on April 23. The extemporaneous division allows FFA members to give a four- to six-minute speech on a designated agricultural topic. Once the contestants select their topic, they have 30 minutes to prepare their speeches. They are then judged on content, presentation and ability to answer questions. Mese will represent Oklahoma in the national extemporaneous speech contest at the National FFA Convention in October.
Kyle Hilbert of Depew, Stephen Tillinghast of Owasso, Maverick Squires of Noble and Alison Slagell of Weatherford placed second through fifth, respectively. The extemporaneous division is sponsored by Scott Stewart of Shawnee and Doug and Kathy Harryman.
A $1,000 scholarship from Danlin Industries, the Carl Laubach family and Rhett Laubach of yournextspeaker.com will sponsor Ashton's participation at the national level.
