President Obama Touring in Rural Missouri
Thu, 29 Apr 2010 6:56:07 CDT
Growth Energy CEO Tom Buis was part of the crowd that included farmers, families, plant workers, local business owners and community members, who welcomed President Obama to POET - biorefining in Macon, Missouri yesterday. At the plant, the President talked to workers and shared his ideas for rebuilding our nation's long-term economy. While the President touted the future of Biofuels- there was no mention made of ethanol or of a possible move by his Administration to jump from the current blend rate of E-10 to E-15.
In his campaign for the White House, then-Senator Barack Obama toured a new ethanol plant in Charles City, Iowa, and said that America's ethanol use - ultimately helps our national security, because right now we're sending billions of dollars to some of the most hostile nations on earth.
Buis said - we've come a long way toward the goal of energy independence and look forward to working together with President Obama and Congress in addressing our nation's economic and energy challenges.
Following his visit Wednesday to the POET biorefinery, the President's limousine pulled in to Lowell Schachtiek's farm near Palmyra, Missouri. Schachtiek, a member of the Missouri Farmers Union and R-CALF USA, says he found out over the weekend that the President would be stopping by to tour his 1000 acre grain, cattle and hog operation.
While the President was there- Schachtiek, who describes himself as an Independent farmer, talked to the President about competition issues, showed the President around his farm, which he called the perfect movie set if you wanted to film 1970s agriculture, and then took the President inside his house, where he and the rest of the family sat down with President Obama. The President wanted to talk health care and the advantages that his new health care law would provide for rural America.
