Congressmen Lucas and Barton to Colleagues- Stop the EPA From Regulating GreenHouse Gas Emissions

Congressmen Lucas and Barton to Colleagues- Stop the EPA From Regulating GreenHouse Gas Emissions The following letter has gone to all US House members as Congressman Frank Lucas and Congressman Joe Barton have teamed up to call for support of H.J. 77, a measure that will stop EPA from starting the process of regulating Green Hourse Gas Emissions.

Dear Colleague:

In December, the EPA declared war on greenhouse gases by formally concluding that the breath we exhale is a dangerous pollutant and should become subject to regulation under the Clean Air Act.

We are especially concerned because the endangerment finding marks an unprecedented move by the federal bureaucracy to expand its authority over American agriculture. If we stand back and watch, we all know what happens next: political activists discover new "problems" and demand action, bureaucrats investigate and regulate, and the cost of food and fiber goes up again.   The inevitable byproduct of the cycle is that economic growth in rural economies stall and jobs evaporate as farmers and ranchers scratch out ways to cope with razor-thin profit margins honed even thinner by their own government.

In response to the threat from EPA, there has been broad bipartisan support in both chambers of Congress to take legislative steps that would prevent the EPA from smashing into rural America like a hailstorm. As the Ranking Members of the Agriculture and Energy and Commerce Committees we joined over 100 Republican colleagues in the House to cosponsor a disapproval resolution (H.J. Res. 77) that would nullify the EPA's endangerment finding. A similar resolution (H.J. Res. 76) was cosponsored by Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson and has also been introduced in the House. These resolutions have the backing of 175 agriculture groups.

Rural America never stopped being a good place to live, so our job is to make it a good place to make a living again. EPA's intrusive endangerment finding pushes that dream over the horizon for many farmers and ranchers. Please help protect rural America and prevent further overreaching regulation by the EPA by joining us in cosponsoring these resolutions.

Sincerely,

Joe Barton, Member of Congress         Frank Lucas, Member of Congress
