Winter Canola Harvest for the 2010 Season is underway. We have these pictures from Brent McIntyre who farms in the Temple area- who is now picking up the windrows of canola that were laid down about a week ago.
Brent emails us "These pictures were in my field 1 mile south of Temple, OK. Canola moisture started today at 9.8% about noon and got as low as lower 5% range as day went on. We are right at a week since swathed. Should be done with harvest (550 acres) tomorrow evening if no breakdowns. Dkw 4615 is this variety. Between my dad and my brother, we had Dkw 4110 and Dkw 4615 canola varieties."
Further north- Michael Marlow with Monsanto reports via Twitter that "Cherokee - Dacoma areas need to be watching canola color change daily now. Perfect weather for rippening. Excellent quaility expected." He indicates that swathing or pushing is happening as far north as Kingfisher County this week.
Winter Canola Harvest is seen as the canola that was swathed about a week ago is being picked up on May 27 in southwest Oklahoma.
