Have Your Signed Up for the 2010 Farm Program? It's Time to Get Her Done!
Fri, 21 May 2010 22:58:31 CDT
Growers not yet signed up for the Direct and Counter-cyclical Program (DCP) or the Average Crop Revenue Election (ACRE) program should plan to do so before June 1, the sign-up deadline.
USDA said this week that more than 75 percent of an expected 1.7 million farms have already enrolled in the program, but time for signing up is quickly coming to a close.
Numerous resources are available to help producers make informed decisions on program enrollment. Farm Service Agency county office staff can answer many questions on program rules, application procedures and possible benefits. FSA also has launched an ACRE Web page with educational information, including an electronic program payment calculator. Click here for that calculator found on the FSA website.
Oklahoma State FSA Director Francie Tolle says we have fallen behind the pace of signup from last year. Tolle says she is concerned, because in the past you could pay a late fee and signup after the announced date. AN EXTENSION IS NOT PLANNED ON FOR THIS YEAR. You need to sign up before June first- or else you are out of the Farm Program for the 2010 crop year.
Dr. Jody Campiche of OSU's Department of Ag Economics, along with Dr. Michael Dicks and Dr. Larry Sanders, has authored a spreadsheet that zeroes in on the needs of a farmer here in the southern plains as theya ttempt to make a call on whether or not to sign up for ACRE or stay in the DCP for another year- click here for that spreadsheet download location.
Besides the OSU and USDA Calculators for ACRE- there is also an excellent calculator that the FAPRI people have worked up for your ACRE decisions- click here for that calculator that can be utilized from the University of Missouri.
