Shirley Sherrod Gets Call from President Obama In television interviews Thursday morning – Shirley Sherrod - the former USDA employee at the center of controversy this week - said she wanted to hear directly from the President. She got her wish shortly after noon Eastern Thursday. According to a White House statement - President Obama expressed his regret about recent events. He added that U.S. Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack’s apology was sincere Wednesday and said this misfortune can present an opportunity for her to continue her hard work on behalf of those in need. He said he’s hopeful she will do so.


Secretary Vilsack has offered Sherrod a position with USDA’s Office of Civil Rights and Community Outreach. Sherrod has said she’s inclined to turn down the job offer.
