Kansas Three Fourths Done with Wheat Harvest- Oklahoma 95% Complete

Fri, 02 Jul 2010 6:20:03 CDT

Kansas Three Fourths Done with Wheat Harvest- Oklahoma 95% Complete Open weather over the last week has allowed harvest to move northward at a relatively rapid pace. Kansas is now 75% complete with the 2010 harvest. Wheat is now being cut well into Nebraska and even winding down in areas of southeastern Nebraska. Harvest has also been very active in southeastern Colorado into east central Colorado, but has yet to get underway in northeast Colorado into the Nebraska Panhandle.

Protein remains unchanged this week at 11.7% as an overall average. However, protein continues to be extremely variable between many individual locations. Test weights improved slightly this week and are averaging almost a pound (61.1) over last year’s final of 60.2 pounds per bushel. Thousand kernel weights also improved slightly this week to 29.9 grams while foreign material remained the same this week at 0.3%, this contrasts a final number in 2009 of 0.1%. Generally, wheat yields continue to be good.

Harvest should begin in northeast Colorado into the Nebraska Panhandle early to mid week if the warm dry weather continues.
