Congressman Tom Cole Says it's Wrong for Government to Get in the Way of Producing Food for the Nation and the World- Video

Thu, 08 Jul 2010 21:04:35 CDT

Congressman Tom Cole Says it's Wrong for Government to Get in the Way of Producing Food for the Nation and the World- Video Oklahoma Congressman Tom Cole toured the Kinder Family Farm in Cotton County this week- and offered some brief remarks of appreciation to Jimmy Wayne Kinder and his multi generational family, as well as his thoughts about the importance of family farms prospering for the good of rural and urban folks alike.

Jimmy Wayne Kinder showed the Congressman around the farm that is based on No Til and Conservation tillage principles. Crops being raised this year include winter wheat, winter canola (now both harvested) as well as milo and Sesame that is in the ground and actively growing.

Kinder pointed out to the Congressman that technology like in row fertilization that they now utilize has meant that they use one third as much fertilization compared to when they broadcast those nutrients onto their fields. Yields are the same- and Kinder told Congressman Cole that means enough savings to pay for the technology, and fewer nutrients that could run off into the waterways in their area.

We have video of Congressman Cole's remarks. Click on the play button in the video window to see and hear how Congressman Cole sees agriculture fit into the big picutre of the American economy and society.
