GIPSA Proposed Rules to Market Livestock- Colin Woodall Sees Huge Turf Battle Between USDA and Congress on this Issue

GIPSA Proposed Rules to Market Livestock- Colin Woodall Sees Huge Turf Battle Between USDA and Congress on this Issue The so called GIPSA Marketing Rules will impact every livestock producer in the United States- and many groups believe in a very negative way. In recent weeks, we heard those for and against the rules debate over the need for additional time for comments on the sweeping proposal. Those who want the rules say all of the those against them have all of the arguments already mapped out and no more time is needed- but opponents of the rules say that USDA has overstepped their authority and that a lot more time is needed to determine how much damage may be done to all segments of the livestock industry.

We are talking to a variety of folks on this issue- and have Colin Woodall of the Washington office of the National Cattlemen's Beef Association with us to consider the political battle that is going on with this proposal- Congress versus USDA and how much liberty the Ag Department will end up getting from Congress to rewrite these rules that have been in place for close to a century.
