USDA's Vilsack Concludes Meeting with Canadian Ag Minister
Wed, 11 Aug 2010 17:23:46 CDTAg Secretary Tom Vilsack met with Canadian Ag Minister Gerry Ritz this week about the shared ag interests of the U.S. and Canada. Both Ritz and Vilsack agreed to establish a high-level working group to further a science-based approach to global ag trade, improve flows and regulatory approaches of the Canadian and U.S. agricultural border and also strengthen food safety approaches of both countries. Both men also agreed to promote science-based ag trade to the shared benefit of ag sectors in both countries. They also had a discussion on the need to revitalize the rural economy, promote strong renewable fuels sectors and implement stronger organic equivalency standards. Vilsack says the farmers and ranchers in both nations are among the most productive in the world and they benefit by reducing barriers to markets.
