Qualla Parman of Muskogee County Selected for Oklahoma 4-H Hall of Fame

Two 4-H superstars for the state of Oklahoma received the highest honor an active 4-H member can receive in Oklahoma- election into the Oklahoma 4-H Hall of Fame.
One of the two that were inducted into the Oklahoma 4-H Hall of Fame was Qualla Parman.
Parman, originally from Muskogee County, is a freshman at Oklahoma State University, and is active in Collegiate and state 4-H activities. She has organized several 4-H promotional activities, reaching a total of 118,863 youth and adults from seven countries with her 4-H story. Qualla is most proud of her National Conference work, which included implementing the statewide Student Tackling Environmental Problems curriculum and planning Discovery Unlimited, an annual camp planned and conducted by 4-H teens for youth 11-12 years old. Qualla says one of the many things she learned in 4-H is that a leader serves others and without 4-H, she wouldn’t have had the confidence to meet and discuss issues with heads of nations, Supreme Court Justices, national law makers, or even her peers and young people eager to learn. Qualla is the daughter of Mark and Erin Parman, and she is majoring in biosystems and agricultural engineering.
The 2010 State 4-H Roundup had 960 youth registered for the conference and more than 1,000 for the Honor Night Assembly. Proud parents and 4-H youth supporters attend Honor Night to cheer on their favorite project finalists and witness the State 4-H Hall of Fame awards. Youth from 69 of the 77 counties were a part of the statewide event.
They participated in a wide variety of workshops ranging from college discovery trips to leadership workshops. Many 4-H’ers this year were the actual leaders of the workshops, and many youth worked in partnership with adults to present educational programming to other Oklahoma 4-H’ers. In addition, they participated in contests, including tractor driving, speech, vocal and dress revue.
During the Roundup, a new team of state 4-H council leaders were selected. Charles Maloy, Rogers County, was elected president; Tanner Allread, Canadian County, was elected vice president; Kendra Rash, Payne County, was elected secretary; and Chris Maxcey, Pittsburg County, was elected reporter.
