From the DOJ-USDA Workshop on Livestock Competition Issues- Allie Devine of the Kansas Livestock Association
Fri, 27 Aug 2010 5:50:31 CDT
The National Cattlemen's Beef Association teamed up with the National Pork Producers Council to host a forum on the eve of the DOJ-USDA workshop on competition in the livestock industry. One of those offering insights on the marketing rule changes offered by the Obama Administration was Allie Devine, Vice President and General Counsel for the Kansas Livestock Association.
The focus of the forum held Thursday evening by the two groups was the so called GIPSA rule on livestock markets. These groups are strongly opposed to the rule- and the room where their forum was held was filled with people wearing stickers that say "Pull the Rule."
Devine says that the GIPSA proposal has several major flaws- staring with the concept that it is a pervasive invasion into private marketing arrangements by the Federal Government. She offers some substantial insights into the rule that was released in June of this year- and is now open for public comment until November 22, 2010.
