American Farm Bureau Keeping Their Powder Dry on GIPSA Rule- For Now

Fri, 27 Aug 2010 14:26:38 CDT

American Farm Bureau Keeping Their Powder Dry on GIPSA Rule- For Now Tara Smith with the American Farm Bureau has traveled west this week to attend the USDA-DOJ Workshop on Competition in Livestock- hoping to get a sense of what producers out across the country are thinking about the proposed GIPSA Rule that is now in the comment period.

The nation's largest general farm organization has not submitted comments yet- and Smith tells us that they continue to analyize the rule- believing that there is probable middle ground between those who totally support the Rule and those who totally oppose it. She says that they are pleased that USDA extended the comment period- as this is a very complex rule which is taking a lot of time to sort out.

Smith tells us that AFBF is happy with the Poultry Rules that have been finalized by USDA. They address a lot of concerns of poultry contract growers that have developed in recent years.
