Wed, 20 Oct 2010 16:06:41 CDT
The Agri- Entrepreneur Awards Program is a new effort to celebrate the spirit of establishing your own business- pulling yourself up by the bootstraps and getting your fledging business established. Here at the 2010 National FFA Convention, there are ten young FFA members who are receiving this national award, complete with a check for $1,000 and a plaque to recognize the occasion. One of the ten call Oklahoma home.
William Maltbie created Maltbie Mowing in Burlington, Oklahoma to provide full-service lawn care to the surrounding rural communities. Yard by yard, Maltbie is cutting grass to grow his future. He has directly applied communications and record keeping skills learned in his agricultural education courses to enhance his business practices. After graduating high school, Maltbie plans to become an agricultural engineer and develop new lines of lawn equipment.
We had the chance to visit with William about his business, which has also earned him the right to compete on Thursday of this week in the National Proficiency Award category Turf grass as one of four national finalists..
