Thu, 11 Nov 2010 6:12:13 CST
Mike Thoren is the President and CEO of JBS Five Rivers Cattle Feeders LLC- and our guest the next several days on the Beef Buzz. We are talking about where the cattle feeding business has been, where it is today and where it may be going with this key player in this segment of the beef cattle industry.
Thoren was on campus at Oklahoma State University this past week as the featured speaker of the Totusek Lectureship. Thoren has served as the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of JBS Five Rivers Cattle Feeding LLC since the Company's inception. From 2003 until 2005, Thoren was the President and CEO of ContiBeef LLC, a former wholly owned subsidiary of Continental Grain Company.
On this Beef Buzz- we focus on value added programs-and Thoren says that the market is very efficient in determining the value of cattle going through the many different programs available to producers. Thoren adds that some programs offer more value than others.
We also talk about the current cash market- and where we might go for price discovery if cash trade gets too thin. He says that for right now, the cash market is adequate.
