Senator Conrad Not To Run for Reelection
Tue, 18 Jan 2011 18:13:15 CST
North Dakota Democratic Senator Kent Conrad says he will not seek reelection to the United States Senate in 2012. In a copyright story by Agri-Pulse, Conrad is quoted as saying, "there are serious challenges facing our State and nation, like a 14-trillion dollar debt and America's dependence on foreign oil. It is more important I spend my time and energy trying to solve these problems than to be distracted by a campaign for reelection."
Conrad says he will also focus on: Crafting a new Farm Bill; as well as state issues: Advance permanent flood control for the Red River Valley and Addressing the disaster in the Devils Lake Basin. Conrad, who currently chairs the Senate Budget Committee, has been in office since 1986 and is considered one of the most influential forces in writing farm policy.
