Wed, 02 Mar 2011 17:07:41 CSTOn a 91 to 9 vote, the Senate Thursday, passed the House's two-week Continuing Resolution extension. It cuts 4-billion dollars from current federal government spending levels. The bill moves on to the Oval Office for President Obama's signature. The new budgeting deadline will be March 18th.
Already work is being done to create a long-term budget designed to extend funding to the end of the fiscal year. President Obama is sending Vice President Joe Biden to Capitol Hill today to open talks with Republicans. Following Senate passage, the President said - we cannot keep doing business this way. Living with the threat of a shutdown every few weeks is not responsible, and it puts our economic progress in jeopardy.
As for the House passed budget that would cut 61-billion dollars is funding for the rest of the year, House Speaker John Boehner asked, how do you start a conversation where one chamber has spoken and the other one hasn't.
