Congressional Leaders Say FTAs Will Pass
Tue, 15 Mar 2011 18:37:21 CDT
Key Congressional leaders believe there is support for the pending free trade agreements with Colombia, Panama and South Korea. House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp of Michigan and Trade Subcommittee Chairman Kevin Brady of Texas believe that if the White House agrees to act on all three pending trade agreements, all would pass the House with bipartisan support.
Earlier Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Orrin Hatch of Utah, and former United States Trade Representative and current Senator Rob Portman of Ohio also called for the timely consideration of the pending free trade agreements.
The House leaders say, "the White House's refusal to act on all three makes no sense, and our colleagues in the Senate are absolutely right the time for action on the pending free trade agreements is now. The longer we wait, the more market share U.S. companies lose to foreign competitors and the fewer jobs we create here at home."
