U.S. and Brazil Sign Cooperation Agreement

In Brazil, over the weekend, U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk met with Brazilian Minister of External Relations Antonio de Aguiar Patriota to sign the U.S.-Brazil Agreement on Trade and Economic Cooperation. In doing so they established the U.S. – Brazil Commission on Economic and Trade Relations. The objective of the commission is to promote bilateral economic and trade cooperation between the two nations.
The agreement calls for the facilitation and liberalization of bilateral trade and investment; cooperation in the United States – Brazil Consultative Committee on Agriculture; sanitary and phytosanitary measures; regulator issues, and others.
