National School Breakfast Week Underway
Mon, 07 Mar 2011 17:22:26 CST
Monday was the beginning of National School Breakfast Week, which runs through this Saturday. According to Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack, by ensuring all children have access to a healthy breakfast, we help lay the groundwork for a successful day and build a foundation for achievement that will help our kids win the future. The program works with First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move!" Initiative.
Wednesday, Secretary Vilsack will speak to the School Nutrition Association, one of USDA's partner organizations that are working to raise awareness of the School Breakfast Program which serves over 12-million children in 88-thousand schools and residential child care institutions each day.
Kevin Concannon, USDA Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services, believes says that thanks to the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act, we will be able to enroll many more children in school feeding programs and greatly improve the quality of meals served in schools.
