Wed, 09 Mar 2011 17:50:45 CST
The American Soybean Association has concerns about the requirements of the European Union's Renewable Energy Directive and the impact that is having on access to EU markets. The group has requested a meeting with USDA and USTR to consider options for responding to the trade barriers resulting from and influenced by the directive. In the letter delivered to Secretary Tom Vilsack and Ambassador Ron Kirk Wednesday - the group asks for priority to be placed on seeking to initiate bilateral negotiations between governments. ASA also asked USDA and USTR to communicate with third country governments regarding the implications of and needed response to the Renewable Energy Directive.
